My Lord,
My
Victoria, Hong Kong,
14 September, 1848
I have the honor to report that on arrival here in March last, I found
the furniture in the Government House both insufficient and of so inferior a quality
that I considered it necessary to direct a Committee to report upon its state,
as well as to suggest the quantity requisite to furnish the public
and banqueting rooms in a respectable manner.
A copy of the proceedings of the Committee is herewith attached, together with a letter from the
Surveyor General to the Colonial Secretary, by which your Lordship will perceive that the outlay for this service, amounting to £284.15.11.
The Right Honorable,
The Earl Grey,
I made the following corrections: 1. Corrected "homer" to "honor" 2. Corrected "Honghong" to "Hong Kong" 3. Corrected "Ssufficient" to "insufficient" and "inferio" to "inferior" 4. Corrected "Committed" to "Committee" and "Scontary_" to "Secretary" 5. Corrected "peresive" to "perceive" 6. Removed non-English characters at the end. 7. Formatted the text into HTML using `
` tags. The rest of the text was left unchanged as per the instructions.
